Hits and Misses

This school year, along with English I is coming to an end. As I reflect on what went well and what went not so well, I come to conclusion with what I can put forth next year. We completed multiple assignments, such as personal narratives, literary analysis, research paper, and poetry. In these assignments, I have achieved both success and failures. I feel successful in my blog posts because I always spend time perfecting them and use them to become a better writer. Also, the personal narrative and research paper were my stronger assignments. We had lots of time to perfect these and get help. I took advantage of this and used this time to work on my writing skills.
I struggled with the poetry section and literary analysis. The poetry section was difficult for me because of all the different applications and variety it required. I work better with set, given instructions, so to be able to choose from ten different poetry styles was hard because I did not know which style was my strong suit. I eventually had some success in it, but it required a lot of time and effort to be put forth. Finally, the literary analysis was tricky for me due to the many different factors and symbols in Lord of the Flies. It took me a while to find a topic I would thrive in, but once I found it I was able to get some ideas flowing. Also, it was my first time writing an essay on a book, so I struggled with citations and embedding quotes. Throughout English I, I have been able to identify my hits and misses throughout our various writing assignments, and use them to my advantage in future papers.

  2. I found poetry a hard topic as well. And the literary analyses was definitely something that had to be deeply thought about to understand what everything symbolized. Great Post!

Kayaking

This summer when I was at camp in Washington I went kayaking in the San Juan Islands. On the last day, there was a huge channel we had to cross. It was 6 miles long. On the channel, there were ferries, boats, and sailboats all crossing. Also, it was the most popular time of year for boats. To top it off, it was about to rain so the currents were even stronger. Aside from the currents and traffic, the water was crystal blue and the wind was blowing off the chilly water so the weather was perfect.        My group and I started on shore on the other side of our destination. We took a long break and then decided to cross the channel. The kayaking guides instructed us where to point our kayaks to break the currents. Once we started the adrenaline kicked in and we started to paddle through. At points, it felt as if we were getting pulled backwards but we kept having to paddle strongly. The best feeling was when we made it back to the harbor and...

Fall Break Free Post

Fall break is definitely one of my favorite breaks. It is a great break from school to relax and have fun. This past break, my mom and one of my friends mom surprised us with a trip to New York for our birthdays. We were both super excited and could not wait until we got there.        We had to get up at 3:30 Thursday morning to get to New Orleans to catch our flight. After the short plane ride, we did not waste any time, we jumped right in to doing things. We shopped the first day and went out to dinner for an early birthday dinner at the Sugar Factory. The next few days, we spent in Central Park, Little Italy, Brooklyn, and SoHo. Also, we went to see Hamilton. It was awesome! Overall, I had a very fun fall break and got a good break from studying and homework.

Symbolism

It was a freezing winter night and Taylor had no where to go. He was in a part of town which he had never seen before. This was odd because he had a pretty good familiarity with the town having been living on the streets for the past 2 weeks. There were no cars, street signs, or stores in sight. Something deep down in Taylor knew this night was going to be different. He waited and waited for a car or even to see a phone booth. But, there was no hope....until a gust of wind zipped by him from a passing car. Taylor started chasing the car in hopes of it stopping. Thankfully, the car saw Taylor out of the rearview mirror, and backed up to him.       In the car was a man and a woman. They rolled down the window and asked, "What are you doing out here on a freezing night like this?" Taylor responded shivering, "I have been on the streets for 2 weeks and got stuck out here. I am lost and hungry and thirsty." The couple immediately filled with sadness said,...
