Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina struck the gulf coast on August 29th, 2005. It started in the Bahamas and quickly escalated to a category 3 and hit New Orleans. It struck the south with very powerful winds and storms.  From cars to homes to losing family, Hurricane Katrina caused so much irreversible and devastating damage. The video I watched was on history.com and was about a man who lost two family members right in front of his eyes during the hurricane. He was trying to save his family, his house, and just trying to make sure everyone was safe, but there was nothing he could do, due to the rushing waters and powerful winds. The destruction of the levees is what made the hurricane the worst. The levees blocking the gulf from New Orleans completely broke and water started rushing in the city which caused the flooding.
I was only two when the hurricane hit, so I was very oblivious to what happened. I knew a hurricane hit but I did not know the damage it caused to New Orleans and the surrounding areas. Once I started learning about it in school and was old enough to actually understand what happened, I learned how traumatic and awful it was. Hurricane Katrina is something that will never be forgotten and is still affecting New Orleans to this say.

  1. I have some friends in New Orleans that were affected by Katrina. Luckily, they have healed up and moved on with their lives. I have been to New Orleans and seen all of the streets that are damaged and haven't been repaired.

Fall Break Free Post

Fall break is definitely one of my favorite breaks. It is a great break from school to relax and have fun. This past break, my mom and one of my friends mom surprised us with a trip to New York for our birthdays. We were both super excited and could not wait until we got there.        We had to get up at 3:30 Thursday morning to get to New Orleans to catch our flight. After the short plane ride, we did not waste any time, we jumped right in to doing things. We shopped the first day and went out to dinner for an early birthday dinner at the Sugar Factory. The next few days, we spent in Central Park, Little Italy, Brooklyn, and SoHo. Also, we went to see Hamilton. It was awesome! Overall, I had a very fun fall break and got a good break from studying and homework.

What were your favorite characters childhood shows and characters?

My favorite childhood show was Hannah Montana hands down. My sister and I would sit on the couch and watch it for hours. As my 6 year old self, I thought it was so cool that Hannah had two identities, the other being Miley. Also, she was a teenage pop-star. She became famous all around the world at such a young age. Her costumes and outfits were so over the top and awesome; I always looked forward to her new "concert outfit". It was so unbelievably cool to me that Miley Cyrus started acting at such a young age and was a part of a TV show all girls looked up to.       My obsession with this show led me to my obsession with Hannah Montana. I thought of her as an awesome person and aspiring singer in this show. Now, of course I don't really know much about her because she isn't as public, but I think it would be so cool if she made a re-run. Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus inspired me as a kid and i still wish it was running.

Kayaking

This summer when I was at camp in Washington I went kayaking in the San Juan Islands. On the last day, there was a huge channel we had to cross. It was 6 miles long. On the channel, there were ferries, boats, and sailboats all crossing. Also, it was the most popular time of year for boats. To top it off, it was about to rain so the currents were even stronger. Aside from the currents and traffic, the water was crystal blue and the wind was blowing off the chilly water so the weather was perfect.        My group and I started on shore on the other side of our destination. We took a long break and then decided to cross the channel. The kayaking guides instructed us where to point our kayaks to break the currents. Once we started the adrenaline kicked in and we started to paddle through. At points, it felt as if we were getting pulled backwards but we kept having to paddle strongly. The best feeling was when we made it back to the harbor and...
